Soekarno-Hatta Airport Aims for Top 10 Global Ranking by 2029
Soekarno Hatta Prepares to Break Through – Indonesia’s largest aviation hub, Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, is set to make significant strides toward securing a spot among the world’s top 10 airports by 2029. As of now, the airport holds the 22nd position globally, according to recent rankings.
Transformation Driven by Collaborative Efforts
Modifications to the airport’s infrastructure are being rapidly implemented through partnerships with key entities such as InJourney Holding and Danantara Indonesia, as stated by Mohammad R Pahlevi, President Director of InJourney Airports. This initiative builds on a comprehensive strategy initiated in 2024, focusing on three core areas: infrastructure development, personnel training, and operational streamlining, with technological advancements serving as a critical enabler.
“The airport’s transformation has been underway since 2024, structured around three pillars—infrastructure, human resources, and processes—with technology playing a vital role in supporting these efforts,” Pahlevi explained in a written statement from Jakarta on July 12, 2026.
Progress on Major Projects
Notable achievements include the completion of the Special Hajj and Umrah Terminal 2F, which was officially launched in 2025 by President Prabowo Subianto. Additionally, Terminal 1C was reopened in the same year following a successful revitalization. The Terminal 3 upgrade also resulted in it receiving a four-star rating from Skytrax, highlighting its improved standards.
In 2026, the focus shifted to Terminal 1A, where ongoing revitalization efforts are designed to enhance passenger experience, modernize facilities, and expand annual capacity from 5.7 million to 10 million travelers. These developments underscore the airport’s commitment to achieving international competitiveness.
